If you would rather spend your time on some secluded
beach or cove, then you'll love the fact that you are only ever
minutes away from a beach in the Glamorgan Heritage Coast and
Countryside. We have a varied choice of wild and wonderful beach
life along our 28 miles of coastline, including a 14- mile stretch
that was awarded Heritage Coast status in 1972.
If, like many of our other visitors, you know your swell from
your wipe-out you can take your pick from beaches like Sker Bay,
Pink Bay, Rest Bay and Southerndown that are a paradise for surfers
from all over the world. The waves are great for both experts and
beginners, who can get on board and learn the skills they need at
one of the many local surf academies.
If you would rather look on from a distance, perhaps from the
coastal path, then lace up your walking boots to discover
spectacular cliffs and rock formations that overlook a number of
secluded coves such as Tresilian Bay, which is perhaps the most
romantic of all with its 'Bow of Destiny' cave, and Dunraven
Bay.
Test your strength and endurance walking amongst the sand dunes
at Merthyr Mawr, including one of the largest single dunes in
Europe, known as 'The Big Dipper'! Why not take a sledge for an
extra fun journey back down or accept the challenge of running up
it as part of the annual Christmas Pudding Run!
